How to Unload a Gi Ar Mag Easy

  1. I'm sure this is not a new discovery but I was playing with an AR magazine at my desk today and found this out by accident
  2. Will it work with a full 30 round mag?

I tend to just take a cartridge and, using the base of the case, run it through like it was the bolt stripping the round from the mag. The quickest way, however, would be an M-16 lower. ;)

  3. The last one shown was a full 30 round P-mag
  4. Gotcha. The lighting and low resolution of the video made it difficult to tell.
  5. Too bad you couldn't reverse the process to quickly load them.
  6. Bump Stock ... sorry, couldn't resist
  7. I forget the company that makes it but there is a gizmo that is sorta like a 30 round stripper clip, but to me loading the "clip" doesn't seem all that much faster than just doing it the old fashion way.

When I've a lot of mags to load I'll use this little Pro-Mag tool that has a tube and plunger that loads five rounds at a time to save my thumbs.

About the only time I ever unload mags is if I need the ammo for a different gun that uses different mags , but generally I just buy more ammo before I get to that point.

  8. I have no affiliation and don't own one yet, will soon.

    Podavach loader

    Podavach Website
$89 and works on AR and AK mags.

  9. There are numerous options of that basic concept out there these days.
  10. Wow that was pretty dang fast!

Might it be rough on the feed lips?

I just hold the mag so the rounds are pointed down at the floor (box, or whatever)
And push on the 2nd round in with a cartridge, pen, or otherwise blunted but pointy object.
The top round falls out, and you just go back and forth.

Next time though, I'm trying this.

  11. I can't imagine that it would be, your just letting the mag spring push everything out.
  12. I prefer the old-fashioned way. It's even faster with an M16A1.......I emptied many, many magazines the old fashioned way with them. I always seemed to order too much ammo for the range......

I just tuck the stock under my left arm, grab the forend with my left hand, point, and fan the trigger.
  14. I have a much faster way :D

    My .308 post sample

  15. I have maybe 2 dozen AR mags, never had a reason to unload one.
  16. Someone needs to come up with an apparatus to help a one armed man count his change.

    Aren't those called wives?
I got rid of my first version. It would count, but it wouldn't give it back.
I haven't found a good dealer for a new model yet, but then I have two arms and get to keep all my change.:D

I pity all the poor fools that have to empty out all those 30 rounders, either by automated ammo retrieval or the inert conversion method. Being from commie-land, we only have to unload 10 at the most from our MSR, making our jobs easier. Isn't government so thoughtful.
  19. Wow, i didnt know that either.

    Pretty neat

  20. Newbees used to ask why all the Skillcraft ball point pens were "all gnawed up". It was from pressing down the second round and rocking back and forth. Some guys used a cleaning rod section, but that could bugger the screw thread on the rod section that you might really need at some point. Some guys just used the first round from the first mag as the "tool". This was with 18 round loaded "20 rounders" in the way back.

I did see guys doing it the way the OP did and saw them rip up a cuticule bed on a finger or thumb nail to the point of bleeding and so never used that method.........

That's why they put the "Auto" switch on the left side of the receiver. It automatically empties the magazine for you! Newbies .... Shesh!!!
